Easter is coming and that means…

…Simnel Cake.

Simnel cake, traditionally baked & gifted at Easter, is a traditional English fruit cake which has a layer of marzipan baked through the centre and a layer of fresh toasted marzipan on top.

Traditionally it is topped with 11 symbolic marzipan balls which represent 11 of the 12 apostles of Jesus (that is,  Judas is missing). Simnel cake is a much lighter fruit cake than the rich fruit cake eaten at Christmas and it is  delicious!

I am planning to bake Simnel cakes just before Easter. They will be 6” square and will be wrapped to make a lovely gift. If you require the traditional marzipan balls on top just let me know (as I tend to find that most of my customers prefer a more atheist cake these days). Collection will be by arrangement after Palm Sunday to suit you. The cost is £35 per cake.
